Capturing the Paid Preparer signatures in the tax software can be done in multiple ways, but for this tutorial we will be explaining the process using a signature pad. This article is for Desktop users only.

A compatible signature pad must be installed and connected on the device (pc or laptop) before capturing signature.

Note: All Paid Preparers must have a valid PTIN in order to prepare tax returns and the PTIN must be present in the Pair Preparer record in the tax software.

From the Work In Progress (WIP screen), select Database.

Select the Paid Preparer’s name and choose Edit

This article demonstrates how to capture a paid preparer signature in the desktop software.

Not sure if you are on hosted or desktop?
Hosted users have the Cloud Client/Tax Client and have Cloud Credentials (tti\firstname.lastname).
Desktop users don’t have a Cloud Client/Tax Client and login directly to the software with the Clients login (no Cloud Credentials). For the hosted version of this article, use Capturing a Paid Preparer signature (Hosted).

  • The paid preparer signature will be present on all tax returns that are electronically filed with the paid preparer’s Prep ID present on the Client Data.

  1. Select Database.

  3. Select the name of the person who needs to capture their signature and choose Edit.

  1. Enter your cell phone, cell phone carrier, and select RemoteSign.

  2. Once the message has sent you will receive a prompt on the screen. You can select OK.

  4. Enter your name, the last four of your PTIN or SSN, and zip code and select Next.

    1. This information must match the prompt/information from the paid preparer information window.

  5. Ensure your screen rotation is on and select Ok.

  7. If you are happy with your signature, select Yes, Sign Electronically.

  9. Navigate back to the tax software. Open the paid preparer record and ensure the signature saved.
