Business - Starting a 990-T Return for a Tax Exempt Organization with Unrelated Business Taxable Income
This article provides instructions on how to create a new 990-T return within the Crosslink Business software.
Follow the instructions below to successfully create a new Form990-T return in Crosslink Business:
Follow the instructions for Business – Starting a Tax Return. When selecting the entity type, choose 990.
Crosslink supports two methods of filing the 990-T for organizations with unrelated business taxable income.
If this organization does not have a filing requirement for either Form 990, Form 990-EZ, or Form 990-PF but does have unrelated business taxable income, navigate to the Client Data Screen and scroll down to the Organization Information Select the checkbox next to Organization exempt from filing 990 series but with unrelated business taxable income (Filing Form 990-T only). This allows Form 990-T to be filed as a standalone return.
If this taxpayer does have an obligation to file either Form 990, Form 990-EZ, or Form 990-PF and has more than $1,000 in unrelated business taxable income, navigate to the Client Data Screen and scroll down to the Organization Information Select the checkbox next to Organization filing Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-PF with $1,000 or more in unrelated business income (Form 990-T filed in addition to Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-PF). This allows Form 990-T to be filed as a secondary return.
If choosing Form 990-T as a secondary return, you must also check one of the boxes indicating a filing of Form 990, Form 990-EZ, or Form 990-PF.
