Allocating Credits on Form 8379 Injured Spouse Allocation

This article demonstrates how to allocate credits to the injured spouse on form 8379.

Failure to allocate credits can cause the injured spouse to receive less of a refund.


How to Allocate Credits

  1. Complete Form 8379, see Form 8379 Injured Spouse Allocation.

  2. Select line 16 or 17. Select Worksheets from the Active Options Window.

  3. Allocate the credits to the Injured Spouse. Do this by entering the total amount of credits (Column a) in the allocated to Injured Spouse (Column b).

    Shown below is an example of allocating credits, your allocation may look different. Be sure to allocate all credits on your return.
