Taxpayers should use SCH A to itemize when:

  • Itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction for the tax period

  • They are a non-resident alien

  • They are MFS and their spouse itemized deductions

The most common itemized deductions include:

  • Medical expenses

  • Charitable contributions

  • Gambling losses

  • Mortgage interest

  • Real estate/property taxes

All applicable SCH A Due Diligence Documents must be completed prior to entering ANY information on SCH A. 

Follow the instructions below to correctly complete SCH A:

  1. Select Add Form.

  2. Begin by typing A, into the search bar at the bottom of the All Forms and Schedules Menu.

  3. Select Form SCH A. Double-click to add the form.


  4. Complete the SCH A, filling in all applicable sections. 

You can view the amount of the taxpayer's itemized deductions and compare it with their standard deduction on the Tax Summary Page.
