    This article demonstrates how to setup and configure TextLink in CrossLink TaxProAlliance.

    Before setting up TextLink, follow these steps –

    Important: Recommended to use a Google Account to set up TextLink, you can create one for free. To create an app password, you must have 2-Step Verification on your Google Account.

    1. Go to your Google Account.

    2. Select Security.

    3. Under "Signing in to Google," select 2-Step Verification.

    4. At the bottom of the page, select App passwords.

    5. Enter a name that helps you remember where you’ll use the app password.

    6. Select Generate.

    7. To enter the app password, follow the instructions on your screen. The app password is the 16-character code that generates on your device.

    8. Select Done.

    To help protect your account, Google will revoke your app passwords when you change your Google Account password. To continue to use TextLink, simply create a new app password following the steps.

    To configure TextLink, follow these steps –

    1. Log in to CrossLink TaxProAlliance as a user with administrator rights.

    2. From the top menu, select Setup → Office Setup.

    3. Click on Email.

    4. Under Mail Settings enter the Google Account email address and the App password that was created.

    5. Click OK to close the save changes and close the setup screen.

    For Crosslink TaxProAlliance 2021 and above, make sure the Server URL is set to smtp.gmail.com and the Server Port is set to 587. For Crosslink TaxProAlliance 2020 and below, these fields can be left blank.

    To test TextLink, follow these steps –

    1. Open a completed return that has no errors.

    2. Click Print on the top toolbar.

    3. Select the Encrypt PDF check box, then click the PDF button. The PDF Password window will appear.

    4. To change the password from the displayed default, enter the new password. The password is case sensitive.

    5. Click Ok.

    6. The PDF opens. Enter the PDF Password and click OK to open the PDF. Remember, the password is case-sensitive.
