The following article shows the procedures on how to download, install and set up CrossLink TaxPro Alliance. There are 6 installation screens to complete before getting to the Setup screens.

We recommend installing and configuring the previous year's version before installing the current year's version. If carry forward data exists, this will enable that information to be properly carried over.

 

Follow the instructions below to successfully download and install CrossLink TaxPro Alliance:

1. Log in to your account at https://accounts.taxproalliance.com:4443/affiliate/.

2. Click on Download Desktop Software and then click Begin Download.

3. Additional downloads are located below.

If you download any archived versions, it is recommended that you install the software in chronological order (working from the oldest program desired first working forward). This will prevent issues with carry-forward data.

4. Open or Run the installation file that was downloaded. Some versions of the software may download as a compressed (zipped) folder. Right-click on the compressed folder and click Extract all... to extract the contents, and then double-click on the setup application within the extracted folder to run the software installation.

Upon initiating the InstallShield by running the "setup.exe" file, the installation wizard starts. Click Next to continue to the next screen.

When the license agreement appears, select the radio button I Accept the terms of the license agreement and then click the Next button to continue to screen 3.

Choose the Destination Location of where CrossLink TaxProAlliance will be installed. By default, the program is installed in the following location C:\xlinkYY folder. We recommend changing the destination location by clicking the Change button and navigate to C:\TaxSoftware\xlinkYY. After the location is selected click the Next button to continue to screen 4.

Click the Install button to install the program to the destination location that was previously selected in screen 3. If changes need to be made for the Installation Settings, click the Back button. If no changes are needed, click the Install button to continue to the next installation screen.

The program begins to install and the progress bar begins to move. Screen 6 will appear automatically.

Installation is complete, and by default, the “I would like to launch CrossLink TaxProAlliance ” is checked. Click the Finish button to continue to the Setup Screens.

 

 

CrossLink TaxProAlliance Setup
There are 7 setup screens that need to be completed to finalize the Setup. These instructions will guide you to complete the setup.

 

Setup Screen 1

If prior year TaxPro Alliance is installed, the Path field will be detected and will be shown. If the path is incorrect it can be changed by clicking the ellipsis button (box with three dots) to the right of the path. Enter in the Prior Year Login and the associated Password. If for some reason you do not want to pull data from the prior year or there is no prior-year software installed, simply remove the Path, Prior Year Login and Password field.
 
To complete this screen enter in the User ID and Transmission Password then click the Next button to continue to Screen 2.

 

The message “Setup could not find a prior year version of the program on your computer” will appear if program was not installed for the prior year.

If this is a Managed site the following information will already be entered. If this is a standard installation you can fill in the following information. 

Fields denoted with an "*" are required fields. 

Office Information 

  1. Name*

  2. Phone*

  3. Location*

  4. Fax

  5. Email

  6. Site ID

After entering the required and applicable fields, click Next to continue to Setup Screen 3.

There are 2 parts to Screen 3; the Administration Password and the Password Recovery Information. The Administration Password and Password Recovery sections are required to continue to set up screen 4. Enter in the Admin Password that will be used for the ADMIN account and then confirm the password. This password will be used to log in to CrossLink 1040. Enter the E-Mail Address and Phone Number this will be used for the Password recovery.

 

The Admin Password is a unique password that is created by the person installing the software. This password must be remembered to login to the program. This Password must contain an upper, lower, special character, digit, no spaces and be at least 8 characters.

 

The E-mail and Cell Phone fields are required for the purpose of the Forgot Password link on the login screen.

 

Once all information has been entered click the Next button to continue to Setup Screen 4.

CrossLink TaxPro Alliance has optimized its security features. If the user wants to use Enhanced Encryption they will need to create a unique Enhanced Encryption Password and then confirm the password. Once all information has been entered click the Next button to continue to Setup Screen 5.

Enhanced Encryption is not a required field.

Select how this copy of the program will communicate with Central Site.

  1. Transmit

  2. Transfer

  3. Feeder

For Existing Customers, there are options to transfer information into the newly installed version of CrossLink TaxPro Alliance.

  1. Prior year Setup

  2. Prior year Billing Information

  3. Prior year Database

  4. Prior year Login Accounts

  5. Prior year Appointments

Once all information is selected click Next to proceed to Setup Screen 6.

If there is a prior year installed, you can choose to transfer the prior year login accounts.

  1. Select the Login Ids that need to be carried over to the new installation of the program. If all logins need to be transferred click the Select All button.

  2. Default Password – enter the default password that these Login IDs will use to log in to the program. Upon first-time login, the user will be prompted to change their password.

  3. Click Next to proceed to Setup Screen 7.

Click the Finish button to launch the program.

To Opt Out of Multi Factor Authentication, remove the  checkmark and click OK.

 

 

Login Screen

To login into CrossLink TaxProAlliance for the first time enter in the user name Admin and the password that was created for this account in Setup Screen 3.
