This article provides an overview of how to add Form 1098-T.

Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement

  • Taxpayers should receive Form 1098-T if they were enrolled with an eligible educational institution.

  • Form 1098-T reports tuition paid by the student and scholarships/grants the student received for a tax period.

  • If students disagree with the amounts on their Form 1098-T they should consult their educational institution.

  • A 1098-T issued to a student that will be a dependent of another, will be claimed by their guardian if their payments (box 1), exceed their scholarships/grants (box 5). If scholarships/grants exceed payments then the student will claim the 1098-T.

ℹ️ In a typical year with no extensions, Form 1098-T should be made available to students by January 31st, and must be filed with the IRS by February 28th.
