This article demonstrates how to capture an ERO Signature inside the hosted software.

Not sure if you are on hosted or desktop?
Hosted users have the Cloud Client/Tax Client and have Cloud Credentials (tti\firstname.lastname).
Desktop users don’t have a Cloud Client/Tax Client and login directly to the software with the Clients login (no Cloud Credentials). For the desktop version of this article, use Capturing an ERO Signature (Desktop).

  • The ERO signature will be present on all tax returns that are electronically filed in the office.

What is an ERO?

ERO stands for Electronic Return Originator. This is the individual that originates the electronic submission of a return to the IRS. The ERO is usually the first point of contact for most taxpayers filing a return using IRS e-file.

Typically, the Manager is designated as the ERO in a tax office. The ERO signature will be on every e-filed tax return in the office no matter who the designated paid preparer is.

Capturing an ERO Signature

This can only be completed after EFIN records have been released (typically January 1st of the current tax year).

  1. Select Database.
