Form W-9 is used to provide the correct TIN to persons required to file an informational return with the IRS. This is usually to report, income paid to a taxpayer, real estate transactions, mortgage interest paid, acquisition or abandonment of secured property, cancellation of debt, or contributions taxpayers made to an IRA.
