This article demonstrates how to complete Form SSA-1099.


About Form SSA-1099

  • Taxpayers must include Form SSA-1099 with their return if they are otherwise required to file.

  • Social Security benefits can be 50-85% taxable.

  • Taxpayers receiving SSI will not receive this form.

Completing Form SSA-1099

  1. Select Add Form.

  2. Locate and highlight Form SSA-1099 in the All Forms & Schedules Menu. Double-click to add.

  3. If a joint return, choose New Taxpayer's or New Spouse's Occurrence.

  4. Complete the SSA-1099, filling in all applicable sections.

    1. If the taxpayer has Medicare premiums deducted add all premiums together, enter them in the bottom left corner of the SSA-1099, and link to SCH A.
